GUNTA STOLZ : A TRIBUTE

The project introduced the concept of surface development through large screens with constraining to the brand collection elements
The brand I chose to follow the process was KAS Australia. out of the themes from Trend forecast 2019-20; I chose ARTFUL CRAFT. Which introduces the woven Textiles from BAUHAUS  geometry, calm brush strokes which fits as the keywords to define KAS AUSTRALIA collections.
My selection of Design language in this project was based on BAUHAUS ARTIST. Out of all the artists in BAUHAUS, Gunta Stölzl's textile was picked for this project. I was inspired by her design drawing for a carpet, 1926. Watercolor. Bauhaus Dessau, Germany.
The most peculiar thing observed was that her designs were painted on weaving graph book. Partial grids were visible from her painting. This language is what I have taken forward; VISIBLE AND NON VISIBLE GRIDS LAYERED BY WAVES, BRUSH STROKES, GEOMETRY.
The project is about acquainting and equipping to deal with the principles of Surface development and in learning the vocabulary of Surface design. It has the objectives to sensitize the importance of the form about the International market. To inculcate genuine respect for the efforts taking to produce screen printing textiles with several colors hence the no. of screens, mesh type with various techniques to get the respective variation. To stimulate interest in the creative process of developing a very important skill of textiles.

. This module was a sequel to Surface Design from semester II. But this time with a more professional approach. To start from scratch until the product is finished following the  Brand taken by each individual and strictly working with Trend forecast of colors, patterns and prints aesthetics language of brand and measurements of the product.
The course methodology that was followed included studying the Trend forecast via various forecasting companies like WSGN, Pattern Bank, Pattern Curator, studying home furnishing industries, individual assignments, self-study, feedback.
